Record-o-mat – Joana-Naomi Welteke & Nadja Rix [CANCELLED]

MIXTUR 2021

Program

The record-o-mat is open for all. It is a participative sound installation, which creates a place in the public domain, where you could get in contact, personally or as an acoustic part of the collective composition, which expresses the diversity of people and helps to accept coincidence and the unknown.
Through a digital algorithm, every recording is added to the composition and connects to fragments of all other recordings. The composition is continuously played through a small sound system and mixes with the actual sounds of the environment where it becomes part of the experience. The artistic exchange and identification with other participants can occur in the neighbourhood as well as at the festival and can be experienced as part of the whole. Added to that, the record-o-mat gives one the freedom to experiment with sound as a way of personal expression, it creates a platform to express daily concerns and invites to relax and listen.

information

Joana Naomi Welteke (born 1997) lives and studies in Hamburg, Germany. Together with her co-student Nadja Rix, she applies her curiosity to everyday noises and the artistic exploration with soundscapes. The meaning of recordings as a composing tool increases in their workshops and projects in public space. Besides, Joana presently works together with the street performance company “Oakleaf Stelzenkunst”. This gives her the chance to connect her interdisciplinary interests of performance and circus, composition, visual art and programming.

Nadja Rix (born 1971) has a main artistic focus in the vast acoustic stage of sounds of all kinds, mainly in the urban context finding and creating special atmospheres and soundscapes and search for new and different approaches for people to relate to their acoustic surroundings. Her second artistic passion is dedicated to poetic street photography. Nadja lives in Hamburg with her 12-year old daughter Amina.
