MIXTUR 2020 COMISSIONS

Mixtur has commissioned 49 new works from 2013, premiered always by high-level performers. Mixtur has a strong commitment in promoting the new musical creations of Spain with several commissions made to outstanding composers of the country year after year. This edition, 3 Spanish composers have composed a piece commissioned by Mixtur.

On the other hand, from the artists presented in the Mixtur Open Call 2018, 1 international composers have been selected to receive a commission for new work premiered during the Festival Mixtur 2020.

BIOGRAPHIES

Inés Badalo

She studied Composition at the Superior Music Conservatory of Badajoz and the Superior Music School of Lisbon. She is winner of various awards, including the Concurso Internacional de Composición “Manuel de Falla”, Prémio de Composição Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores/Antena 2, Premio FIDAPA Concorso Internazionale di Composizione Città di Udine and Premio de Composición Colegio de España en París-INAEM. Her compositions have been performed at various national and international festivals, and premiered, among others, by Neopercusión, Ensemble Sonido Extremo, Dalia Quartet, Grupo Enigma and Gulbenkian Orchestra.

Aaron Cassidy

Aaron Cassidy is an American composer and conductor. His work has been programmed by leading ensembles including ELISION, EXAUDI, Musikfabrik, Ensemble Recherche, and the Kairos, Diotima, and JACK string quartets, at major festivals as Donaueschingen, Ultraschall, Warsaw Autumn, Huddersfield, Darmstadt, Gaudeamus, Dark Music Days, and Tage für Neue Musik Zürich. His works recordings are available on NEOS, NMC, HCR, and New Focus Records. Cassidy is a Composition Professor and the Director of Centre for Research in New Music (CeReNeM) at Huddersfield University.

Voro García 

Graduated in different musical specialties. Doctor of Music from the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He has been commissioned by different institutions and interpreters, such as INAEM, JONDE, CDMC, IVC, Auditorio Nacional or Ensems. Award from the National Youth Institute (2004). Founder and creator of the Ensemble Espai Sonor. He has been composer-in-residence of the Group Instrumental (2001-02), JONDE (2005-06), MNCARS (2009), JOGV (2009/10) and SBALZ (2018). Artistic director of the Mostra Sonora in Sueca (2005-2017). He is currently a composition teacher at the Higher Conservatory of Valencia and artistic director of the Ensems. He publishes his works in Babelscores, SB edicions and Ed. Piles.

Itziar Viloria

She was born 22 years ago in Bilbao, where she studied piano and Fine Arts. She is currently studying Composition at ESMUC (Barcelona) with Mauricio Sotelo and Christophe Havel. She has had works premiered in Bilbao, Barcelona and The Hague, receiving commissions for end-of-grade concerts and own projects. Her interests include numerous artistic fields other than music, such as sculpture, painting and the scene. For this reason, she is working on a small-format opera in which through experimentation and interdisciplinarity she explores her artistic identity.
