information
Francisco Ferro is a French Brazilian composer of contemporary music. His works are performed worldwide by numerous international ensembles and orchestras such as Jack Quartet, Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, Camerata Aberta, MDI Ensemble, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Filarmônica de Minas Gerais, McGill Symphony Orchestra and Orchestre National Avignon-Provence. His catalog includes instrumental, orchestral and electroacoustic works as well as soundtracks for audiovisual projects (films and documentaries). Marked by the notion of sound kinetics, his works are also distinguished by the transparency of their textures and an approach to orchestration that is both practical and economical. His electroacoustic productions subtly erase the line between electronic and acoustic music. Recent projects include a commission for Orchestre National Avignon-Provence, with the support of the French ministry of Culture, and a commission for Ensemble Télémaque, with the support of SACEM. In July 2019, he was a guest resident at Villa Medici, the French Academy in Rome, and a resident at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. He was then selected to be a resident at la Casa de Velazquez, the French Academy in Madrid, for 2020-2021. Francisco Ferro holds a Doctorate in Music Composition from McGill University (D.Mus 2017), a Master of Arts from Tufts University and a bachelor degree from Berklee College of Music.
