Record-o-mat: Joana Naomi Welteke & Nadja Rix
MIXTUR 2022
Program
der record-o-mat – a sound installation:
participation – auditive diversity – fragments and coincidence – self-efficacy – internal space and the outdoor – me and the others
The record-o-mat is a participatory sound installation open to all. It invites people to pause and thus becomes a meeting point in public space, be it quite analogue in physical encounters or as an acoustic part of the collective composition. It is open to experimentation with sound as a means of personal expression, provides a platform to express everyday issues and invites people to relax and listen.
The record-o-mat is a telephone booth transformed into a mobile recording studio. Everyone is invited to contribute their individual recording to the constantly growing generative composition, where it combines with fragments of all the other recordings.

information
echo.urban.GbR (Nadja Rix and Joana Naomi Welteke) is an artist duo from Hamburg (Germany) in search of everything acoustically present. We practise listening – precise, active, curious, creative listening. We process the acoustic material in an aesthetic way and let it become audible again in public, rearranged and brought into a different form.
As a collective, we locate our work in public spaces, deal with what we encounter and have a participatory, low-threshold approach. We are interested in the urban space with its people and paths. Our joint academic background in ”Expressive Arts in Social Transformation“ enables us to work intermedially and grounded in the intersection of the arts and the social. In addition to our unusual and contemporary interactive installations and performative works, we also offer workshops.
Joana Naomi Welteke (born 1997): Coming from a music, dance and circus background, Joana is currently more intensively involved with interactive performances and installations in the public space. She works in various project-based constellations and increasingly integrates different multimedia possibilities for the artistic treatment of social themes. In addition to her projects with Nadja Rix, Joana also works closely with the street performance company OAKLEAF Streetshow. Besides her activities in project conception, implementation and as a performer, Joana works as a circus trainer with children and studies in the master’s programme “Sound/Vision”. More information and projects:Chaturanga, Cubes of Communication, Oakleaf Streetshow.
Nadja Rix (born 1971) has a main artistic focus in the vast acoustic stage of sounds of all kinds, mainly in the urban context finding and creating special atmospheres and soundscapes and search for new and different approaches for people to relate to their acoustic surroundings. Her second artistic passion is dedicated to poetic street photography. Nadja lives in Hamburg with her daughter Amina. Further information and projects: nadja-rix-kunst-soziales.art.
