Founded in Barcelona in 2010, FUNKTION is an ensemble dedicated to the exploration of contemporary music, especially recognized for it performances of music of the North American experimental tradition, most notable of John Cage and Morton Feldman. Its members include violinist Vera Marínez Mehner, violist Jonathan Brown, cellist Erica Wise and pianist Lluïsa Espigole. FUNKTION’s members, classically trained yet aesthetically fearless, seek new ways to experience music for both performer and listener. Past collaborations have included sound artist Jakob Kirkegaard, composers Roger Goula, Raquel García Tomás, Octavi Rumbau, the dance company ACME, new music ensemble Crossing Lines and conductor Lorenzo Ferrándiz. They have performed in concert halls, museums and galleries throughout Barcelona, as well as Haus der Kunst in Munich, Germany.
