Eva Barrenechea & Błażej Kotowski
“Useless and Necessary” is an installation of drawings with sound made by EvaBarrenechea in collaboration with the sound artist Błażej Kotowski.
It is inspired by one of the ideas that Clarice Lispector develops in her novel
“The apple in the dark”. It is the idea of a new consciousness awakening that
reinvents our old world. Such an endeavour generates a swing between
calmness and chaos that B.K. explores through sound in complicity with the
“Useless and necessary” proposes an eleven meter long journey to explore
from the inopia and through the senses.
Permanent installation during the Mixtur Festival every day
Eva Barrenechea was born in Barcelona in 1971. A relevant fact in her career was when she discovered that her drawings change their meaning before or after having eaten.
Błażej Kotowski is polish sound investigator and an electronic music composer based in Barcelona. Researcher at Music Technology Group and a student of Sound and Music Computing at the UPF in Barcelona. He is interested in both aesthetic and cultural implications of music, as well as the potential behind the sonic phenomenon described by scientific formulas.
His methodology emerges from the appreciation of the way sound is organised in the natural world. His current research focuses on creating and tuning systems capable of turning complex, abstract processes into aesthetically appealing results. His main interests are generative systems, sonification methods, alternative tunings and algorithmic sequencing.
Recently interested in interactive designs and chaos theory, his proposition for Mixtur will cover both fields to build a system creating a real-time sonic experience in collaboration with the viewers.
